TRUCKS: Skinner Wins at Kansas |

| |
It took almost three days, but Randy Moss Motorsports’ Mike Skinner finally won the rain-delayed NASCAR Camping World Truck Series O’Reilly Auto Parts 250 at Kansas Speedway.
Appropriately enough, the race was shortened because of rain. The race started on Saturday, but storms and tornadoes in the area caused the race to be postponed until Monday. Skinner held the lead during the delays as he was in front when action was halted Saturday after 52 laps. Then, the race that was scheduled for midmorning Monday was delayed because of rain once more, finally restarting in the middle of the afternoon.
The drivers made it through lap 132 of the race’s scheduled 167 laps Monday before the race was halted again for rain and finally called.
For Skinner, this was the latest step in a recovery from a postseason that left him looking for a ride at the last minute.
When Bill Davis Racing was sold in the offseason and the new organization decided not to field trucks, Skinner suddenly found himself without a ride. It didn’t take long, though, before the 1995 series champion landed with Randy Moss Motorsports and crew chief Eric Phillips.
And Skinner picked up right where he’d left off - turning in top finishes. He took that up another notch with Monday’s win in the rain-delayed, rain-shortened event.
“We got us one and it’s really, really cool,” Skinner said. “We’ve got a lot of effort to build this whole program … We’re just going to keep digging and hopefully we can win us another one or two of these things.”
Red Horse Racing’s Johnny Benson – who competed as Skinner’s teammate last season at Bill Davis Racing last season – finished second. Xpress Motorsports’ Brian Scott, Kevin Harvick Inc.’s Ron Hornaday and Billy Ballew Motorsports’ Brian Ickler followed.
Roush Fenway Racing’s Colin Braun, SS-Green Light Racing’s Chad McCumbee, ThorSport Racing’s Johnny Sauter, and GunBroker.com Racing’s Jason White rounded out the top 10.
Skinner moved up three positions to take the points lead and now holds a 25-point edge over Hornaday. Germain Racing’s Todd Bodine is third in the standings.
