Shift Cable Assembly Bulletin - Vendor Issue

No: 2011-005

Issue Date:05/04/2011

Subject: Supplier defect causing shifter misalignment.

Description of Problem: Our shift assembly manufacturer sent out shift assemblies as an incomplete unit. The shift cable jam nut was left loose resulting in misalignment. This will make it very difficult to shift. The shifter will hang in gear, fall out of Low Range, and can be difficult to get in gear.

Units Affected: All 1500G machines built from November 2010 to April 2011.

Issued By: D. Gottschalk

Cause: The bolts are furnished with lock washers but we have determined that this is not enough to stop the bolts from vibrating loose over time.

Solution:

1.)    Remove the Phillips screw that attaches cable housing to the shifter.  Verify that the nut on the back side of housing does not fall out when removing cable.

2.)    Once the screw is removed, pull cable out until the nut on the end of the shift cable is visible.  Place blue thread lock on the threads of the nut and tighten with a 3/8 wrench.

3.)    Re-assemble shift assembly and verify that the shift lever moves up and down freely.  Also, make sure that the shifter is adjusted correctly so that transmission can be placed in all gears (High, Low, Neutral, and Reverse).   You should feel a slight amount of resistance when operating the shifter, but no “catches.”
