Electric Utility Vehicle FAQ

How long should I Charge my battery?

8 hours should give you a full charge; however, battery manufacturers state that batteries only reach a charge of 100% after 25 recharges.

Are the UTV’s fully charged when they reach the dealership?

They have been fully charged one (1) time. It is recommended that the dealership plug it in anytime the unit is not in use.

Can I overcharge my batteries?

No. With our Smart Charge System, you can plug it in and forget it. In fact, we suggest you plug it in anytime you are idle for peak performance.

How far will my UTV go on a full charge?

Distance is going to depend on the terrain and load. Averages: Severe terrain: 8-12 miles, moderate terrain: 20-25 miles, flat surface: not tested because this is not likely. Our Brushless series averages almost double the distance.

Why did my battery run down so fast? The indicator showed a full charge.

The battery life indicator is no different than a common cell phone. You can plug it in for a few minutes and it will show a full charge, but, as we all know, it won’t be long before it is dead again. If you attempt to charge your batteries for a couple hours, it will show a full charge, however, that is not the case.

Why do my breakers keep tripping when I plug in my UTV?

The on-board charger pulls approximately 8 amps. So if the outlet has other devices plugged in the outlet(s) you could be exceeding the amperage limit of the breaker.

What is “limp mode”?

When your batteries are almost dead, your UTV will switch to “limp mode” which is a crawl to get maximum range out of the last bit of power.

How long will my batteries last in Limp Mode?

Approximately 1 mile depending on the terrain and load.

Can I pull the UTV?

You can pull it. It does not have a lockout.

How often should I check the battery fluid levels?

Every 6 weeks. (There is an easy-fill water fill kit available for your UTV)

How do I check my batteries?

There are four (4) batteries under the seat, two (2) under the bed, and two (2) under the front hood. The batteries are easily accessible and can be checked by removing the speed cap on the top of the batteries.

Why won’t my UTV move?

They key must be on, forward or reverse has to be selected, and the parking brake released. These are all safety features built into the Bad Boy UTV.

What are the recommended tire pressures?

Front: 10-12 lb. PSI/ Rear: 12-14 lb. PSI

Why is that clicking sound near the front on my 2009 UTV?

This is normal. The clicking sound can be reduced significantly by engaging 4WD. It does not affect the unit in any way to leave the 4WD engaged.

Are there any other fluid levels that I should be concerned with?

There are three (3) gear boxes on the UTV. Front, rear, and 90 degree(only on the 2009 UTV) gear boxes. The front gear box holds approximately 8 oz. of Citrol hydraulic fluid. The rear end gear box holds approximately 42 oz. of 80-90 WT oil. The 90 degree gear box holds approximately 8 oz. of 80-90 WT oil.

How often should I check the fluid levels in my gear boxes?

Gear box oil levels should be checked every 2,000 miles or 170 hrs. unless under extreme conditions or leakage is visible.

How do I check the fluid levels in my gear boxes?

Each gear box has a set screw that can be removed with an Allen wrench. The fluid levels should be reachable with the short tip of the Allen wrench.

When will accessories be readily available?

Soon! We are working with different vendors to provide you with hard tops, windshields, cup holders, bed liners, gun racks, etc.

Do you have any performance tips?

When traveling up steeper inclines, it is best to use half throttle rather than keep the pedal to the floor because the unit is asking for more power than is available. This technique will significantly improve battery life.
