Memphis in May's World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest was held May 14-16, 2009 in Tom Lee Park in downtown Memphis. Hundreds of teams compete for over $90,000 in prizes and supreme bragging rights. Teams adorn their areas with elaborate decoration, trophies attesting to their boasting rights, and clever and creative team names.
This year’s First Place in Whole Hog and Second Place overall went to Batesville’s own Party Q BBQ. Party Q is made up of friends and family, two members of which started by cooking on other teams. Party Q participates annually in the Batesville “Harvest of Hope” charity cook. They also cook for the Batesville High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Special Olympics, as well as many other charities and events, including Bad Boy, Inc’s annual company picnic. Bad Boy Mowers employee, Jon Hidy, is a member of Party Q BBQ.
